Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg will host a meet-and-greet event in Limon, CO on Tuesday, April 9. This will be the first of several tours Greenberg will make across Colorado to listen to and learn from farmers and ranchers across the Eastern Plains as well as the San Luis Valley and Western Slope.
The event is set for 1-2:30 p.m.at the Limon Community Building at 477 D Avenue in Limon. Farmers and ranchers are encouraged to voice their concerns and recommendations regarding production agriculture and how the Department of Agriculture can work with producers. During the past few years producers have been dealing with declining farm income and difficult weather events.
While in Limon, Greenberg plans to meet with community leaders whose businesses depend on agriculture.
Earlier in the day, Greenberg will tour of the farm operation of Virgil and Jan Kochis, about 10 miles southwest of Limon. The diversified operation includes livestock, pasture, and row crops. The farm also is home to more than 30 wind turbines generating renewable energy.
