Feeding America

Rocky Mountain Farmers Union has joined with National Farmers Union to meet a challenge grant benefitting Feeding America. Feeding America (feedingamerica.org), the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, works with a network of more than 200 food banks across the country to supply 3 billion pounds of food and grocery products annually to needy families. The Howard G. Buffet Foundation (thehowardgbuffettfoundation.org) has offered to match every dollar given in the name of National Farmers Union to Feeding America, up to his $50,000 challenge.

It isn’t necessary to be a Farmers Union member to participate, but the donation must reference the challenge (NFU Campaign). Donations can be made on-line at feedingamerica.org/NFU. Feeding America can provide the equivalent of $17 in retail food for each dollar donated. With the Buffet Foundation’s matching funds, your dollar will translate into $34, enough to half fill a grocery cart.
Howard G. Buffett is a farmer and philanthropist with roots in the Midwest and an advocate for of Feeding America’s fight against hunger. The challenge grant provides a medium for the agricultural community to support hunger relief and help their neighbors in need. Your NFU-tagged donations will generate funds for food banks serving your area.

Feeding America reaches 37 million hungry Americans each year, nearly 14 million of them children. Remember:

  • With the Buffet Foundation challenge, each dollar you donate is worth $34 in retail goods.
  • Your donation is channeled back to your community’s food bank (based on donor zip code).
  • Donations can be made online at feedingamerica.org/NFU, or by sending a gift to Feeding America NFU Campaign, PO Box 96749, Washington, D.C., 20090-6749.
